Questions
Frequently asked questions
What the plans actually limit, and what happens to your work and your money.
What are the Free plan limits?
Five projects, each with 200MB of storage of its own and uploads up to 10MB — the allowance is per project, not one pool shared across your account — and no cap on how many items a project holds. A project on Free is a real project, not a trial-sized one: you get the canvas, the world model, the scripting editor, play mode with themes, and full project export. Lore documents and spreadsheet views are on Pro and above, and Free is single-user: collaborators need a paid plan.
Can I ship a commercial game made on the Free plan?
Yes. Free is limited by size, not by what you may do with what you make — there is no non-commercial clause, and shipping or selling a game built on it is fine. Your writing and your project data are yours to take with you, and we don't take a cut.
What is an AI credit, and what happens if I run out?
A credit is a unit of real model cost rather than an invented currency, so you get an estimated price before you run anything and your balance stays in view while you work. Your monthly allowance resets each month and does not carry over; credits you buy on top are separate and do not expire. Nothing else in TaleShard spends them — the canvas, world model, scripting, play mode and engine sync do not cost a credit.
Is a paid plan billed per person or per account?
Per person who edits. A subscription starts with one seat — you — and you add a seat for each collaborator you invite, with no ceiling on how many. Seats can be removed again, and on Team anyone who only needs to read is free and takes no seat.
Is storage counted per project or per account?
Per project. Each project gets the full allowance for your plan — 200MB on Free, 1GB on Pro, 10GB on Team — so a second project starts empty rather than eating into the first one, and adding seats does not change it. It covers everything a project stores, documents and world data as well as uploaded media.
What happens to my projects if I cancel?
They stay yours, and you can take them with you. Complete project archives and JSON export are on every plan including Free, so exporting everything never depends on an active subscription.
When will I be charged?
Not yet — TaleShard is pre-launch and there is no checkout to put a card into. The prices above are what we intend to charge at launch; if they move before then, everyone on the waitlist hears it from us first, and nothing is ever charged without you choosing to subscribe.
Is it really free for schools?
Yes. TaleShard is free for accredited institutions teaching interactive narrative, game writing or scenario design. We would rather agree the details with you than publish a table we invented before meeting a course, so the education page is a conversation rather than a plan card.
Can I self-host?
Yes, on Enterprise. The self-hosted and hosted versions are built on the same storage interface, so the feature set does not fork by deployment — running TaleShard on your own infrastructure does not mean running a cut-down version of it. Get in touch and we will scope it with you.
